FOURT, 2022
Ballroom Gallery (Brussels)

Conceived as a soft-chateau, the exhibition is crowded with opulent expressions of hygiene, mass manufacturing and enchantment. Duffaut’s work activates the carefree qualities of market coercion. It shapes and sculpts wasted perfections up until a point where constellations of clean bold colors emerge. For his first solo exhibition, Duffaut brings into focus the elegantly banal he is intrigued by. The works intend to produce a collective atmosphere of non-difference, of non-heterotopia. They allow us to fall implicit, to fall into a trope, into a corporate business meeting, a collective therapy session for people with trust issues. FOURT asks serious questions about the nature of ‘realness’. Its impossibility and absolute possibility. Liveliness beyond the boundaries of realness. Forms catapult through the space creating new levels of dysphoric sensation and general confusion. A sanitary extravaganza, an arena of branded monstrosities. It wonders what might have happened in the factories or in the mechanical fur or in Julia's bathroom. This show has one mission. To do it well. And then, to head to the compost or the gutter.

Under the guise of a ‘Basic Art’ book from mega-publisher TASCHEN, this autofiction is a curation of my art practice, starting from my childhood untill 2030. It explores the many ambivalences inherent to my work, including death drive and sex drive ; imposture and social success ; sacred and profane.

Délivrénoo Training Session
, 2021
Performance in public parcs (Brussels)

Halfway between a military training and an outdoor fitness session, this fake recruitment course for food delivery couriers was conceived during the global COVID pandemic lockdown, when sports halls had closed and food delivery at home exploded. The performance begins with physical warm-ups instructed by a coach, followed by one-minute workshops where the delivery apprentices repeat actions as quickly as possible, and ends in ‘duels’. This project questions whith humor the working conditions of food delivery people, while playing and activating colorful uniforms in the space.

Frozen World Cup 2022, 2021
Installation with video projection, ice-replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy, fridge, pedestal

During my residency in Lebanon in 2019, I noticed the light projection promoting the FIFA World Cup 2022 on the ‘Raouche Rocks’ (one of the main touristic attraction of the capital city). The climatized stadiums built in Qatar for the mega-sport event inspired me to replicate the FIFA World Cup trophy with ice and to showcase it inside a refrigerated vitrine. Next to this, a video projection showed an animation of the twisted logo of FIFA World Cup, with rhododendron and snowflakes falling, alongside Bangladeshi and Nepali passeports.
